Applications welcome for 2012 EU Journalism Training
Position :
In 2011, Fondation EurActiv and the Robert Bosch Stiftung launched an innovative training programme to help young journalists gain experience in European Union policies and online media. The second edition of this programme will start in Spring 2012 and applications are now open.
Selected applicants will be invited to follow a week’s training in Berlin. (Organized in cooperation with EurActiv Germany and taking place in March 2012)
The Berlin seminar will include training on contemporary case-studies and new journalism techniques. Topics will include: How to turn EU stories local – and local stories European, ‘Europe 2020’, the EU's Digital Agenda, financial crisis and reforms as well as energy policy.
Based on their knowledge and performance shown during the Berlin seminar, six journalists will be selected for the second phase: up to eight weeks of internship with Fondation EurActiv in Brussels.
This intense training phase will provide a unique opportunity to live and breathe EU journalism right in the centre of Europe within a team of experienced, international reporters working for one of the most renowned online EU media.
During the training weeks, each of the selected journalists will produce stories for publication in their home media and possibly for EurActiv.com. They will have the chance to attend EC press conferences, do VIP interviews and cover both areas of their own expertise (related to their home media) or unrelated policy areas if they wish. In addition, a guided trip to a Strasbourg European parliamentary week will be organised and the training period in Brussels should coincide with a EU Summit.
Each selected journalist will be assigned a senior editor, who will act as mentor and coach. Regular coaching will be provided from the editors in Brussels, while journalists will continue to be employed by their sending media, which will benefit from their added EU reporting knowledge after the training.
Successful fellows will become members of an alumni network, with regular updates and opportunities to work on future EU related stories together with other journalists who have participated in the programme.
Thanks to the Robert Bosch Stiftung, selected participants will be reimbursed for travel costs and living expenses in Brussels. Support in finding accommodation in Brussels will be given.
